It wasn't even jerky, I had a smooth frame rate. Then I opened up World of Warcraft, and I did not immediately crashed anymore! I was able to walk around the newbie town and travel outside without any issues. So I lowered it all the way down to 700 MHz, and for the first time, I was able to race, and not only that, I was able to complete the race.

I opened up Dirt3 and I was able to enter the menus just before I select Race option, and then the driver stopped responding. The default GPU clock is 775 MHz, so I lowered it to 750 MHz and see if it had any effect. So I played around with the nVidiaInspector, and noticed I am able to adjust the clock settings.

So I think the fan is not the issue, the GPU still functioned fine at 90C! I could let it run forever, this was after 15 mins. With the GPU burn in test, the GPU temperature went up to 93C and stabilized there, without crashing at all. With the benchmark tests the GPU temperature goes up to 81C max. Do you guys have a sensor for fan speed?įirstly, I have tried the GPU burn test called Furmark, and using the benchmark I did all the benchmark tests and the GPU burn in test. And only after that will I start installing MS Office, etc and all the other stuff.

I don't want to install any other software until I get this running properly, then I will make a backup image. Also I am running only one web browser which is IE9. The only other programs I have installed are Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft and Dirt 3.

I am running Win7 with all the Important and Optional updates installed, the necessary drivers for hardware eg atk, acpi, atheros, etc. There was a post somewhere that described each of the ASUS bloatware in detail and I decided I did not want them. I forgot to mention that within the first week I bought this notebook I went and installed Win 7 64-bit from scratch. Yeah, I have uninstalled the video drivers, as you can see in my post when I described how I went from 268 to 275 to 280 and latest is 285.Īs of this moment I am running 275.50 drivers as this is the one that is giving me the least problems.Īll my hardware drivers are downloaded from the ASUS website. P/s right after posting this I will reinstall the old 280.26 drivers because the lagged typing and scrolling is unbearable! What do I do? Any software utlity I can use? Any other ideas? Maybe my fan is not connected to the motherboard? The reason I ask is that, I was curious and thought, now I will try to run a game in windowed mode, and sure enough, upon launching the game, the temperature climbs from 49C to about 65C in about 5 mins and then the dreaded nVidia kernel driver message appears and the game crashes. Is this normal? Have you guys got the fan reading or blank as mine? I also installed nVidia Inspector to try to underclock my GPU, but upon opening the page (attached), I see there is no fan speed. Most of the time I will freeze at Test 2, but sometimes I will be able to reach the combined GPU and CPU test and that is where 3DMark11 crashes. I have never had a successful completion with 3DMark11. I tried 2D games like Transport Tycoon (OpenTTD) and I was able to play for hours.

Last night I downloaded World of Warcraft Trial and tried to play it, at first it worked for maybe 4 to 5 minutes, I was quite happy, until I was booted to desktop and the Blizzard error report page came up. Makes it very hard to do backspacing to fix typos =) This has not happened with other drivers 275.50 and 280.26. Even as I am typing now, I type now and a second letter it appears. This driver has a flow however, scrolling is very slow. This driver seems to let me play for over 4 minutes before freezing, compared to other drivers, but maybe that is just my imagination. where all I can do is hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off. But it does this every 5 seconds, until it stops and freezes.

In StarCraft in-game I will get the Paged Pool Memory low error, all the time, and the screen will flicker back to desktop then without touching anything I will see the game screen again in 3-4 seconds and can resume playing. "nVidia kernel mode driver stopped working and has recovered." What I can't live with however is that I can't play any 3D games on it, it will just crash.Įvery so often my screen will go black, back to desktop, with the message: Hi guys, I just got this notebook G53SX for about a month, and I have had neverending problems with it.
